After 9/11, Washington increased its anti-terrorism efforts around the world. Before that, the USA treated this problem indirectly and didn’t attach much attention to this. The Department of Homeland Security was established in 2002 to fight terrorism. The Department has incorporated efforts of other agencies and their budget appropriated from the US Treasury for counter-terrorism campaigns.
According to various economic sources, the American taxpayers have already paid dozens of trillions dollars to counter terrorism. The Nobel Laureate in Economics Professor of Columbia University Joseph Stiglitz estimates 3 trillion dollars were spent during 5-year war in Iraq.
A year ago, Barack Obama announced another campaign now against new world threat – “the Islamic State”. Since that there were more than six thousand airstrikes costed about 4 billion dollars. Nevertheless, according to the officials, the number of ISIS fighters became unchanged. Besides the media reported the American Armed Forces were dropping weapons which supposedly were intended for combined forces against ISIS. However, more than 60% of dropped weapons were captured by IS terrorists and this is just the official numbers.
After Washington’s involvement, terrorists only forced their positions with the help of the USA.
